Mixed Signals From a Guy: How to Read the Pattern
Look beyond individual texts and assess consistency, follow-through and the overall pattern.
Mixed signals are confusing because isolated moments can point in opposite directions. The better unit of analysis is the pattern.
Look at consistency
Does he initiate sometimes? Make and keep plans? Follow through after expressing interest? Can you raise uncertainty without the conversation disappearing?
Don't overread response time
A slow text can have ordinary explanations. A sustained shift from engaged communication to prolonged inconsistency is more meaningful than one delayed reply.
Words versus behavior
Warm words paired with little follow-through still give you useful information. You don't need to identify the hidden reason before deciding whether the pattern works for you.
Ask for clarity when needed
Direct, calm questions often reveal more than increasingly elaborate interpretation.
